Aroha
in Practice
A Guelph man
supported by GSA
was the first person in Ontario around
whom an Aroha
was formed. The man (let us call him Adam) was a pioneer in creating a
home of
his own as a basis for a good whole life. He was fortunate that his
parents
were willing and able to pay for his home, and also that he had
individualized
funding with recognized powers to direct how the funds should be used.
He also
had good friends who cared about him and met with him from time to time
in ones
or twos or as a full support circle.

introduction to chapter in CREATING A
HOME AND GOOD
LIFE OF MY OWN: Strategies and formal agreements developed
by Guelph Services for the
Autistic in its role as housing trust (2008).
